TEMPERANCE — A 24-year-old man was arrested by Monroe County Sheriff‘s deputies on Monday night after an hours-long standoff in a wooded area behind the suspect‘s home.
The incident began around 4:30 p.m. when authorities received a report of a troubled man who was in his Stoneybrook Lane home with a hand gun, Chief Deputy Heath Velliquette said.
When police arrived the man, whom police would not identify, ran into the nearby woods with the gun, he said.
Deputies called for a SWAT team and cordoned off the neighborhood. Residents have been asked to stay indoors while deputies continue to talk to the man in the woods, Deputy Velliquette said.
The suspect was booked into the Monroe County jail after his arrest; his charges were not known.
