Tiffin council to decide on joint justice center

TIFFIN — City Council will meet today to consider supporting a joint justice center project, a proposed facility to house both municipal court and Seneca County Common Pleas Courts.

Council will meet at 4:15 p.m. at City Hall. Councilmen are expected to pass a resolution expressing support for the justice-center concept and possibly specify a Jan. 31, 2015, deadline for county commissioners to decide whether the county will participate in the project, Mayor Aaron Montz said.

Councilmen on Monday discussed a state-funded, $100,000 study that recommended the county and city build a justice center for an estimated $8.5 million on the former Seneca County Courthouse property. The 1884 courthouse was torn down in 2012.

The study called for the justice center to be built on the former courthouse site.
