AL roundup: Royals can’t finish off sweep

ARLINGTON, Texas — Scott Baker won as a starter for the first time in more than three years and the Texas Rangers beat the AL Central-leading Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Sunday to avoid a series sweep.

Baker (2-3) went five innings in a spot start.

RAYS 2, BLUE JAYS 1: At Toronto, Evan Longoria singled home the go-ahead run in the 10th inning.

Facing Sergio Santos (0-3), who was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo earlier in the day, Ben Zobrist walked to begin the 10th and went to third on Logan Forsythe's ground-rule double. Longoria followed with a groundball single to left, scoring Zobrist.

MARINERS 8, RED SOX 6: At Boston, Dustin Ackley had three hits and scored three runs, and Seattle's bullpen was sharp for the second straight day. Ackley had a triple, double, and single, finishing 13 for 25 in six games against Boston this season.

Kyle Seager drove in two runs for Seattle.

Dominic Leone (7-2) worked 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief for the win.

Will Middebrooks had a two-run double and drove in three runs for Boston, which is on its worst stretch since losing 10 straight in May.

YANKEES 7, WHITE SOX 4: At New York, pinch-hitter Brian McCann lined a three-run homer with two outs in the 10th inning.

Ichiro Suzuki had a two-run single and the Yankees rallied for their fourth straight victory following a 2-7 slide.

Avisail Garcia hit a tying homer in the ninth for the White Sox, who have lost a season-high six in a row and dropped their last eight games at Yankee Stadium.
