Foreclosure activity in metro Toledo fell by 14 percent in the second quarter of 2013 compared with the same period a year earlier, according to data released today by real estate data firm RealtyTrac.
The activity, which includes a notice of default, pending lawsuit, scheduled auction, or repossession by a lender, also decreased by 6 percent in the first half of the year, according to the firm based in Irvine, Calif.
For the four-county metro area of Lucas, Fulton, northern Wood, and western Ottawa counties, RealtyTrac said the number of housing units in stages of foreclosure totaled 1,651 from April through June. The total was down 2 percent from the first quarter of 2013, and it broke down to one foreclosure-related housing unit for every 182 housing units in the metro area.
Lucas County had the largest number of troubled properties in the second quarter with 1,365 housing units in some stage of foreclosure. Wood County had 281 housing units; Fulton, 60, and Ottawa, 37.
In the first half of the year, 2,995 homes in the metro area were involved in foreclosure, or one for every 101 housing units. Foreclosure activity between January and June was down nearly 17 percent compared with July through December of 2012, RealtyTrac reported.
For Ohio, 26,129 housing units were involved in foreclosure in the second quarter, or one for every 196, down 5 percent from the same period in 2012. Foreclosure activity in the second quarter was down 4 percent from the first quarter of 2013.
For the first half of 2013 in Ohio, foreclosure activity totaled 49,400 housing units, or one for every 104 units, up 2 percent from the first half of 2012, but down 7 percent from the second half of 2012.
