As most Christian churches celebrate Palm Sunday this weekend, and then Easter or Resurrection Sunday on March 31, many Orthodox worshipers are at the beginning of their Great Lent season of meditation that starts spring. Tomorrow is the Sunday of Orthodoxy and commemorates the return of icons to Orthodox churches in the year 843. Orthodox Palm Sunday is April 28 this year, with Easter May 5.
Orthodox churches in the Toledo area will be together for Sunday Vespers services at 6 p.m. followed by a meal at different churches during Lent, starting Sunday at St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 738 Glenwood Rd. in Rossford. The theme for the pan-Orthodox Lenten lectures is baptism.
