Boxcar Grand Prix will be Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Swan Creek Metropark, 4659 Airport Hwy., as a fund-raiser for the Friendly Center. Participants paid $50 to register foot-powered cardboard cars that they design, decorate, and race. Interested racers who didn’t pre-register can bring their own boxcar, pay the fee, and join in the races. Spectators can purchase a lunch of a half-chicken, side dishes, and two beverage tickets for $10. The grand prix, which includes activities for families and children, is scheduled to be an annual event.
The Friendly Center provides programs and services to support people in the North Toledo corridor. It operates in collaboration with the United Methodist Church.
