Moral Mondays on the road

The Moral Monday movement, in which ministers and other faith leaders gather at state capitols to bring attention to legislation that some clergy members consider immoral, came to the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus Thursday and continues through Aug. 28. The prayer week—not just Monday action; the name comes from regular demonstrations in North Carolina, where the movement started—included prayers Friday for labor rights, fair and living wages, and economic justice, and today through Wednesday participants will gather in the Statehouse from noon to 12:30 daily to advocate and pray for other issues, including education, the criminal justice system, health issues, and the environment. The week will conclude with a Faith Rally for Ohio Families Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., and faith leaders plan to return Oct. 15 for another rally. The Ohio Moral Monday week is being coordinated by the strategy group Faith in Public Life.

New Winebrenner degree

A master of arts in clinical counseling degree is being added to the credentials a person can study for at Winebrenner Theological Seminary in Findlay. The program, starting in January, will require two years of full-time study or four years part-time. At the conclusion of their studies, students will have taken all courses required for state licenses as professional counselors or professional clinical counselors; they will have studied ethics and multicultural characteristics; and through internships and other activity they will have had some practical training. Winebrenner's master of arts in clinical counseling program is Christian-oriented education. Winebrenner is the only seminary of the Churches of God, General Conference, and is located next to the campus of the University of Findlay. It offers degrees and other certificates in ministry and other religious studies. For more information, go to winebrenner.edu.
