BARBERTON, Ohio — An Ohio man has died from injuries he suffered in a New Year’s Eve shooting that left his two children dead.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s office says John Kohler died Friday afternoon.

Police are still searching for clues in what they say was a likely robbery attempt in the northeast Ohio community of Barberton near Akron.

The shootings happened while the teens were visiting their father’s home.

Autopsies released Friday say that 18-year-old Ashley Carpenter died of a single gunshot wound while her 14-year-old brother David Kohler-Carpenter suffered several gunshot wounds to the head.

The father’s girlfriend also was shot and remains in the hospital.

A vigil is planned for Friday night in Barberton.
