Ohioans can fish free for 2 days in the state's public waters without buying fishing licenses

COLUMBUS — Ohioans of all ages can fish free this weekend without a fishing license in any of the state’s public waters.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says Ohioans can fish free Saturday and Sunday. Ohio anglers 16 years and older are required to have a valid fishing license at all other times of the year to take fish, frogs or turtles from Ohio waters. Ohio fishing licenses cost $19 a year.

The department also has established family-friendly fishing areas at Sycamore State Park, Delaware State Park, Maumee Bay State Park and Caesar Creek State Park. The ponds will be open throughout the week and stocked with catchable channel catfish. They are open to youths through 15 years of age.

An estimated 1.3 million people fish each year in Ohio.
