Ohio humane society officials remove 40 Chihuahuas, Pomeranian mixes from Columbus home

COLUMBUS — Humane society officials say they’ve removed 40 dogs from a central Ohio home in an apparent case of animal hoarding.

WBNS-TV reports the Capital Area Humane Society removed the dogs Sunday from a Columbus home after neighbors complained about the smell and constant barking. Most of the dogs were Chihuahuas and Pomeranian mixes.

Humane society agents say the dogs were living in filth and feces. Veterinarians will examine the dogs to determine if they’re healthy or need to be put down.

The man living in the home was asked to leave when animal control removed the dogs. No charges have been filed.

Officials say the home’s condition poses serious health risks for anyone living there.

Animal control and the humane society are investigating the situation.
