A 6-10 forward/center from Hebron, Ohio, has committed to play basketball at the University of Toledo beginning in the 2002-03 season.
Allen Pinson will be a senior this year at Lakewood High School. In his junior year he averaged right around 15 points, 7.5 rebounds and four blocks per game.
Lakewood is a Division II school that plays in the Buckeye Athletic Conference. Hebron is located about 20 miles east of Columbus.
Pinson's coach, Mike Rodish, said he expects Pinson to be a power forward in college. Rodish said Pinson, a 235-pounder, was recruited by most of the Mid-American Conference schools, including Bowling Green and Marshall, and he chose Toledo “because coach (Stan) Joplin and coach (Bob) Simon were on him early, and he got comfortable with them.”
Joplin is unable to comment on Pinson until he signs a letter of intent with UT, which he is expected to do in November.
Assuming Pinson does sign, Joplin still would have two scholarships available for 2002-03.
