University of Toledo forward Angel Aparicio suffered a torn ACL and could miss the upcoming men’s basketball season, coach Tod Kowalczyk confirmed Wednesday.
Aparicio, of Spain, suffered the injury last week during individual workouts. He will undergo surgery next month after the team returns home from a trip to Greece.
The injury marks another setback for Aparicio, who has yet to participate in a game after moving to Toledo about a year ago. He sat out the second semester last season to satisfy transfer rules and is set to miss the first 40 percent of the upcoming season because of issues stemming from his professional status in Spain.
“I feel bad for him, I really do,” Kowalczyk said. “At the same time, I think with how good doctors are, with the new techniques, that program-wise this will be a minor setback. I know for him it’s disappointing, but he’s going to come back 100 percent and ready to roll.”
