Notes: UT beat Northwestern Ohio in exhibition games the past two seasons. ... Today marks the beginning of the 99th season of Rockets basketball and the fourth under coach Tod Kowalczyk. ... Northwestern Ohio, a NAIA school, lost its opener Saturday, 95-91, at Montreat (NC) College. The Racers followed two days later with a 71-60 win over St. Andrews (NC) College. ... Junior guard Ed Jenkins leads NWO with 19.0 ppg and 5.5 apg. Senior guard Johnny Elliott is averaging 12.0 ppg. ... UT is 51-47 all-time in season openers and has dropped five in a row. Its last win came in 2007 over Missouri State. ... The Rockets were not sharp Sunday in an 85-84 overtime win over Hillsdale in an exhibition. The Dragons, who are picked to finish second in the Colonial Athletic Association, placed two players on the honorable mention all-conference team: senior Fiona Flanagan (5.4 ppg) and Meghan Creighton (5.9 ppg, 2.2 assist-to-turnover). ... UT has won 8 of its last 11 season-openers, including a 56-34 triumph a year ago over Arkansas State. ... UT won four regular season tournament titles last season. ... Villanova sophomore guard Caroline Coyer was named preseason All-Big East after averaging 7.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists as a freshman. ...
