Phillip Ely will be Toledo's starting quarterback, Campbell says

BLADE STAFF

University of Toledo coach Matt Campbell said Phillip Ely will be the Rockets' starting quarterback for their season opener Saturday.

Speaking to reporters during a weekly Mid-American Conference coaches teleconference, Campbell said that Ely, a redshirt junior who transferred to Toledo from Alabama, will start against New Hampshire on Saturday at the Glass Bowl. Ely earned the start after offseason competition with sophomore Logan Woodside and redshirt freshman Michael Julian.

Ely threw four passes while at Alabama, but transferred after the 2012 season. He has not started a game since he was a high school senior in 2010.
