Goblins, gremlins get tips/Trick-or-treat times

If you’re trick-or-treating tonight, local safety officials have a few tips for you.

Adults are urged to accompany their children to houses that have lit porch lights, to carry flashlights, to inspect the candy that should be wrapped, and to carry cell phones or two-way radios.

Costumes should fit properly and not be too long. Children should be able to see well if wearing a mask and have reflective tape on their costumes.

Groups should walk in safe areas. They should walk on sidewalks, cross at corners, and obey traffic signals. Motorists are asked to drive slowly and to watch for children who may dart in front of their vehicles.

The Lucas County Sheriff’s Office will check candy from 6 to 11 tonight at the Juvenile Justice Center at Orange Street and Spielbusch Avenue in downtown Toledo.

From 6 to 9 tonight, officials will do candy checks at the Washington Township fire station, 2469 Shoreland Ave.; Lake Township Fire Station No. 1 at 4505 Walbridge Rd., and Lake Township fire station No. 2 at 1911 Ayers Rd.
