Garage Rock III season opens downtown July 6

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 325 Michigan St., has announced its line-up for Garage Rock III, a free four-week music series scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays in the library’s parking garage.

July 6 — After Alice, Last Division, and Dash the Assassin.

July 13 — Rocktronica, Attacked by Wolves, and Endless Road.

July 20 — Jeff Stewart, Fast Piece of Furniture, No Cash Value, and Three-Headed Monster.

July 27 — DJ/Emcee Battle with Angel Tucker, Da Phunk Bros., and Point and Randy.

Alice Cooper will bring his Dirty Diamond Tour to the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd., at 7:30 p.m. July 9. Tickets are $30, $38.50, and $45 from the box office, 419-381-8851, or Ticketmaster, 419-474-1333.

Willie Nelson & Family, scheduled at 8 p.m. July 15 in the theater, is sold out.



Country Concert ’06 is scheduled July 6-9 near Fort Loramie, Ohio. This year’s highlights include Carrie Underwood and Montgomery Gentry July 6; Keith Anderson, Phil Vassar, Dierks Bentley, and Alan Jackson July 7; Trick Pony, Tracy Lawrence, Joe Nicholas, and Martina McBride July 8; and Jamie O’Neal, Blake Shelton, and Neal McCoy July 9. The festival site is on State Rt. 66, about 40 miles southwest of Lima. Tickets range from $69 for a single-day ticket (July 6 and 8) to $209 for a four-day reserved seat pass purchased at the gate. The Playwright’s Forum presented by Harvest Theatre of Toledo is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 6 and 20 in the Collingwood Arts Center, 2413 Collingwood Blvd. The forum is Toledo’s version of The Algonquin Round Table. Playwrights (and those interested in writing for the stage) will be able to discuss their work among their peers in a no audience, pressure-free environment.

Harvest Theatre of Toledo is also seeking original work for its “One Page Play Festival” to be performed at Artomatic 419 in September in Toledo. Plays must be no longer than one page in length, double-spaced, on any topic. While monologues will be considered, preference will be given to plays with more than one character, with a maximum of four characters per play. Authors may submit as many plays as they like. You Can’t Take It With You, the 1938 film starring Jean Arthur, Lionel Barrymore, and Jimmy Stewart, has been scheduled at 1 p.m. July 6 in Super Cinemas, 1301 East Mall Dr., Holland, as the latest entry in National Amusements’ Silver Screen Classics program. The Frank Capra comedy is about a family of lovable eccentrics whose lifestyle comes into question when one of their number becomes engaged to wed the scion of a wealthy, self-important clan.

The price of $1 will buy viewers a ticket, popcorn, and a soft drink. The Silver Screen Classics program is geared toward senior citizens, but movie fans of all ages are welcome to attend.



Noises Off, Michael Frayn’s farce about theater folk, is scheduled July 15-23 in the Ritz Theatre, 30 South Washington St., Tiffin.

Presented by the Ritz Players, performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. July 23. Tickets are $14 for adults and $5 for students. Information: 419-448-8544.



The fifth annual Classics on Main car show will take place from noon to 4 p.m. July 8 in downtown Bowling Green. More than 200 classic automobiles, street rods, modifieds, trucks, and historic vehicles are expected to be on display.

AUDITIONS
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre will hold auditions for one production and two staged readings at 1 p.m. July 8 in the theater, 16 Tenth St.

The Rep’s production of Moon Over Buffalo is scheduled Sept. 15-Oct. 1. The Edgy Rep reading of Frozen will be Oct. 14, and its reading of Fat Pig will be Dec. 9. Information: 419-243-9277.



Auditions for The Full Monty will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8 and 6 to 9 p.m. July 9 in the Croswell Opera House, 129 East Maumee St., Adrian. Auditioners are asked to bring their own sheet music. This, the first production of the 2006-07 Showcase season, runs Sept. 22-Oct. 1. Information: 517-264-7469.
