Man dies following hit and run accident in East Toledo

One man was killed and another person was injured after a pickup truck collided with a sport utility vehicle and a pedestrian in front of the Weiler Homes, near the intersection of Bulter and Earl streets about 3:30 a.m., Toledo police said.

The pedestrian was identified as Calvin M. Johnson, 23, of Toledo. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Toledo fire officials.

Police said the pickup was on Artis Place, which turns into Butler, when the driver failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with a sport utility vehicle which was headed eastbound on Earl Street. Mr. Johnson was caught in the middle of the two vehicles as they collided, police said.

Authorities said the two occupants of the pickup, a man and a woman, left the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, Casandra Cutshall, 31, also of Toledo, was taken to Bay Park Community Hospital where she was not listed as a patient this afternoon.

The accident remains under investigation.
