West Toledo woman mauled by 2 pit bulls
A West Toledo woman was mauled yesterday by two pit bulls in her home, Lucas County Dog Warden Tom Skeldon said.
Mr. Skeldon said two pit bulls gave Dorothy Markle, of 1612 Raynor Rd., severe wounds to her legs about 10:30 a.m. She was taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly the Medical College of Ohio Hospital. The hospital had no information on her condition.
Mr. Skeldon said David Fyffe, another resident of the house, agreed to give up the dogs to keep from being cited for housing more than one pit bull. The dogs will be held for 10 days and then euthanized, Mr. Skeldon said.
"They're very large pit bulls, covered in blood," he said.
The dogs apparently attacked Ms. Markle, 32, when she tried to keep them from fighting each other, Mr. Skeldon said. Mr. Fyffe had been bitten by one of the dogs last year, he said. Mr. Fyffe could not be reached for comment.
