The high school wrestlingseason has ended. Cody Magrum’s list of accolades has not.
The Oak Harbor senior, athree-time Division II state champion, recently received the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award, which was issued to one senior wrestler per state. Criteria for the honor included excellence in wrestling and academics as well as character, citizenship and community service.
“I think it’s awesome that from all the good wrestlers in Ohio they picked me,” Magrum said. “It’s an honor.”
Magrum carries a 3.8 grade-point average and mentors wrestlers in the Rocket youth program.
“He’s a good example for the other kids and he’s done everything we’ve asked him to do,” Oak Harbor coach George Bergman said. “Very rarely do you have an opportunity to work with kids like that.”
Magrum will wrestle for Ohio State.
Magrum and the other recipients will attend an all-expense paid leadership camp from June 18-21 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. They will also speak to at-risk youths in their respective communities about the importance of participating in extracurricular activities. Permanent Link
