UT, Owens to link honors programs

The University of Toledo and Owens Community College will announce a partnership Monday that allows students easy transfers between the institutions' honors programs.

Owens graduates who maintain a 3.5 grade point average and complete a minimum of 15 credit hours of honors curriculum for their associate's degree then can pursue an honors course of study at UT.

The agreement, which will be signed during a ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. Mon-day in the Administrative Building on Owens' Perrysburg Township campus, aims to encourage Owens students to enroll in honors classes and keep talented students in the area by making it easy for them to continue that study at UT.

Owens started its honors program in the spring with nine students and hopes to at least double that enrollment this fall.

UT has about 850 honors students.
