Rainy weather Monday and wet forecasts for tomorrow and Friday mean northbound I-280 is unlikely to reopen in East Toledo until next Monday at the soonest, an Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman said yesterday.
Muddy conditions complicate efforts to clean up the wreckage from a construction crane accident that killed four workers, injured four others, and closed the freeway Feb. 16, spokesman Joe Rutherford said. While a piece of the fallen crane that pushed onto the roadway has been removed, another section that could hit the roadway if it fell any farther is still there, he said.
ODOT had hoped to remove enough of the wreckage to restore northbound traffic by Friday.
Northbound I-280 is closed between Navarre Avenue and Front Street, and through traffic is advised to detour via State Rt. 795 and I-75. The southbound lanes reopened through the area two days after the accident.
