    The now defunct Cooke Castle, located on Gibraltar Island near Put-in-Bay, is slated for renovation. Currently part of The Ohio State University's Stone Lab extension campus, the 15 room castle was built in 1864 by the day's wealthiest U.S. citizen, Jay Cooke.

    Chefs for Children, a community collaboration for health, education, and creativity, was held at the Tantara home in Sylvania Township of Susan and Allan Block, chairman of Block Communications Inc., parent company of The Blade. The fifth annual event raised about $425,000 for ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital, Northwest Ohio Scholarship Fund, and the Arts Commission.

    Perrysburg students joins state group

    Chiara Kerr, Erika Joldrichsen and Maddie Pendry of Perrysburg High School students were among 100 juniors and seniors selected to be on the Ohio Attorney General Advisory Board. The selections were made based on their applications that included a submission of an essay on how they would solve an issue currently facing our community. The students will gather twice a year in Columbus to see firsthand how our government works and to discuss issues such as teen drug abuse, bullying and teen pregnancy. When the students are not at the state level, they will meet locally with our representatives to continue discussions surrounding these topics.
