Public hearings on proposed rate increases by FirstEnergy Corp. - including Toledo Edison - will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in the Lucas County commissioners chambers at Government Center in downtown Toledo and 6:30 tonight in Maumee City Council chambers, 400 Conant St.
The hearings are being held around the state by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, which is considering FirstEnergy's proposal that rates be increased for customers of Toledo Edison, Cleveland Electric Illuminating, and Ohio Edison.
FirstEnergy has proposed $340 million in increases to 2.1 million customers, including 300,000 in the Toledo Edison territory. The company proposal adjusts its fee for transmitting electricity in its territory for the first time since 1996.
