Suspect in attempted bus dog-theft indicted
A Toledo man who allegedly tried to steal a disabled woman’s assistance dog was indicted Thursday on one charge of robbery.
A Lucas County grand jury indicted Quincy Mathews, 20, of 2406 Rockspring Rd. after he reportedly got off a TARTA bus July 15 at West Bancroft Street and Upton Avenue and tried to yank the leash of an assistance dog from its owner, Arrica Okenka, who has cerebral palsy.
Ms. Okenka’s middle finger on her left hand was cut by the leash, which twisted around her finger as she grabbed it to keep hold of the dog, according to police.
