Moldovan women to speak at CedarCreek

As part of a campaign against human trafficking, CedarCreek Church is playing host Saturday and Sunday to young women from Moldova, who will speak of conditions in that European nation, considered a hub in trafficking.

Four Moldovan women will appear at each service — 5:15 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. Sunday — at CedarCreek’s Perrysburg, South Toledo, West Toledo, and Whitehouse campuses.

Representatives of two Moldovan groups, Stella’s Hope and New Hope Moldova, also will be at CedarCreek. The events follow a call by Lee Powell, CedarCreek’s founding pastor, for a communitywide fight against trafficking.

In the last decade, Toledo gained attention as a center for the sex trade in minors. Gov. John Kasich last year in Toledo signed the Safe Harbor Law, which increased penalties for adults who profit from underage prostitution and gave teenage victims and survivors a chance to turn their lives around.
