Body of man, 86, found after house fire put out

BLADE STAFF

SANDUSKY — An 86-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds inside his Campbell Street home after a fire was extinguished Tuesday night.

The body of George Martin was found in his basement, Sandusky police Sgt. Dana Newell said. Authorities are investigating the death as a homicide and the fire as arson.

A 911 call about the burning home at 2201 Campbell was made about 8:30 p.m. Sandusky firefighters extinguished the fire and, once inside, found Mr. Martin’s body.

It also appeared that the fire had multiple points of origin, the sergeant said.

The sergeant said Erie County Coroner Dr. Brian Baxter went into the home and saw that Mr. Martin suffered “multiple stab wounds.”

No one else was inside. The sergeant said no charges were filed; he did not comment on any persons of interest.

The body was taken to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.
