COLUMBUS — Gov. John Kasich has appointed Seneca County Prosecutor Derek W. DeVine to the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission through Aug. 21, 2017.

The 31-member commission consisting of judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, victim representatives, prison officials, law enforcement, and other state and local government officials reviews state sentencing laws and advises the General Assembly on potential changes. Commissioners aren’t paid but are reimbursed for expenses.

Mr. DeVine, who lives in Tiffin, took office as prosecutor in 2009. An Indiana native, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Evansville and earned his law degree from Ohio Northern University in 1993.
