Conservancy group honors top volunteer

OAK HARBOR, Ohio — A Toledo man received the Black Swamp Bird Observatory’s Shieldcastle award for outstanding volunteer service in recognition of his help cleaning up highways and other volunteer efforts.

Jim Mollenkopf was presented with the award by the Oak Harbor observatory. The award is named in honor of Mark and Julie Shieldcastle, who helped found the organization.

Mr. Mollenkopf was recognized for helping to maintain the observatory grounds, volunteering in the gift shop, and lending a hand at highway cleanup events.

Tiffanie Hayes of Oak Harbor was given the observatory’s Conservation Science Award.
