Justices let stand death sentence case


The Ohio Supreme Court on Wednesday said it would not reconsider its decision to uphold the conviction and death sentence of Calvin C. Neyland, Jr., for a double homicide in Wood County in 2007.

Neyland, 50, a former truck driver, fatally shot Douglas Smith, 44, of Sylvania Township and Thomas Lazar, 58, of Belle Vernon, Pa., Aug. 8, 2007, at Liberty Transportation in Perrysburg Township. Mr. Smith, the branch manager, planned to fire Neyland that day and had asked Mr. Lazar, the corporate safety director, to assist.
