U.S., UN renew Gaza truce efforts
JERUSALEM — The U.N. chief and the U.S. secretary of state made a new attempt Friday to nail down a temporary truce between Israel and Hamas, as Israel’s 18-day military operation in the Gaza Strip fueled unrest in the West Bank, where five Palestinians were killed in protests.

Mich. man may be charged in dog attack
METAMORA TOWNSHIP, Mich.  — The owner of two dogs that fatally mauled a man as he jogged along a rural Michigan road could be charged after the attack, which was the third since 2012 involving canines from the same property, officials said.

Black box found at site of Air Algerie crash
PARIS — French soldiers recovered a black box from the Air Algerie wreckage site in a desolate region of restive northern Mali today, officials said. Terrorism hasn’t been ruled out as a cause, although officials say the most likely reason for the catastrophe that killed all 118 people onboard is bad weather.
