DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader will have a telephone hearing with NHL disciplinary officials at 4 p.m. today.
The hearing, which could result in a suspension, comes less than 24 hours after Abdelkader was ejected from Game 3 of a Western Conference quarterfinal against the Anaheim Ducks at Joe Louis Arena. Abdelkader hit Ducks defenseman Tony Lydman in the second period of a 4-0 loss, and appeared to come off his skates and make contact with Lydman's head.
Abdelkader received a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct. Lydman did not return to the game, and Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said Lydman had a "headache."
The Red Wings host the Ducks in Game 4 at 8 p.m. Monday.
