Big 10 media day in Chicago

Conference sets up for season with media preview

Miller’s health key for OSU’s season
How important is it for Ohio State to keep Braxton Miller healthy this fall?

Buckeyes tight end Jeff Heuerman laughed.

Oh, wait, the inquisitor was serious?

“How important is it for Cleveland to keep LeBron [James] healthy?” Heuerman said, referring to the Cavaliers superstar. “That's probably answered the same way.”

Wolverines trying to shield star freshman from scrutiny
The most mentioned Michigan football player at the Big Ten media day wasn’t in the building. He probably wasn’t even in the state of Illinois.

But none of Michigan’s representatives could evade the question: How good is Jabrill Peppers?

UM coach Brady Hoke was hesitant to publicly set a ceiling for the freshman Monday at the Hilton Chicago. His new teammates soft-pedaled their statements about Peppers, insisting that he was no different than the 15 other freshmen who joined the Wolverines this calendar year.

Big 10 Notebook: Big Ten supports greater autonomy for power leagues
A week after Big 12 Conference commissioner Bob Bowlsby sent out a warning call regarding cheating in Division I college sports, Bowlsby’s Big Ten counterpart also addressed the topic Monday.

“Bob was a little more colorful in his language but I will keep my words where they are right now,” Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said.

Bowlsby told reporters at the Big 12 media days last week in Dallas that “cheating pays.”
