Lennerton, Farmer spark Mud Hens

BLADE STAFF

LOUISVILLE — A strong pitching performance by Buck Farmer and an offensive explosion by Jordan Lennerton combined to carry the Mud Hens to a 7-3 victory at Louisville on Thursday.

Farmer allowed just six hits, one walk, and one run in seven innings, while Lennerton had two hits and five RBIs as Toledo won for just the second time in seven games.

The Mud Hens broke a scoreless tie with a three-run fourth as Tyler Collins singled, Hernan Perez walked, and Lennerton hammered his 10th home run.

Perez and Lennerton combined to give Toledo a run in the sixth. Perez walked, stole second, and took third on a throwing error before coming home on a sacrifice fly by Lennerton.

The Bats scored in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Felix Perez, the only run allowed by Farmer, who collected 12 of his 21 outs on ground balls.

The Hens broke the game open with three runs in the eighth thanks to RBI singles by Lennerton and Wade Gaynor, and Daniel Fields was hit by a pitch to force home the final run.

Those runs proved important when Louisville scored twice in the bottom of the eighth.

NOTE: Mud Hens pitching coach Al Nipper has left the team after learning his contract would not be renewed by the Tigers for next season. Both manager Larry Parrish and hitting coach Leon “Bull” Durham have been invited to return to Toledo in 2015.
