Fifty works by more than two dozen University of Toledo students are being exhibited this month, and will include an awards ceremony that coincides with the Art Commission’s 3rd Thursday Loop.
The juried work is on display through March 23 at the Center for Visual Arts — Main Gallery, 620 W. Grove Place, which is next to the Toledo Museum of Art.
“All medias will be there, ceramics, 2D work, there’s 3D work, so it runs the gamut. Any media within the practice of art is represented this year,” said Brian Carpenter, gallery director.
On March 17, which is also the monthly art walk loop (don’t forget to support this fun, cultural downtown event), there will be an awards ceremony and reception from 6 to 8 p.m. for the students whose work is entered in the exhibit. The Center for Visual Arts is on the bus route for the art loop.
First, second, and third-place awards will be handed out by this year’s juror, Paula Baldoni, who is gallery director and owner of River House Arts Gallery, Perrysburg. Also given will be a Dean’s Award by Deb Davis, dean of the college of communication and the arts, and the Helen Fitzpatrick Fredericks Award, presented by Barbara Miner, chairman of the school’s art department. All winners will receive cash prizes.
The Juried Student Exhibition has been going on for more than 15 years.

■ If the unconventional presidential election campaign has piqued your interest, or you are just interested in the political process in general, this may be the exhibition for you.
I Approve This Message: Decoding Political Ads opens at the Toledo Museum of Art on July 14, and runs through Election Day, Nov. 8.
The exhibit will use more than 50 political ads from 1952 to 2012 to focus on how imagery, music, and words are used to influence your emotions and capture your vote, through videos, graphics, and interactive media.
The exhibition is free and is sponsored by the museum and HonestAds, a nonprofit political awareness organization. The exhibition was created by Thinc, an exhibition design firm in New York.
