Burglar from Michigan to learn sentence in October

BOWLING GREEN — A Michigan man who was shot by Perrysburg police during a search for him is to be sentenced Oct. 25 for a number of break-ins and thefts in Wood County.

James Scott Newman, 39, of Grand Rapids, Mich., pleaded guilty in Wood County Common Pleas Court recently to two counts each of burglary, disrupting public services, and identity fraud, and one count each of possessing criminal tools, safecracking, tampering with evidence, and obstructing official business.

Newman was shot in the leg Jan. 29 by Perrysburg police Sgt. Jack Otte during a search for him. A Perrysburg Township officer spotted Newman fleeing into woods from a Thompson Road home.
