Paramedic enjoyed racing, computers

WOODVILLE - Thomas M. Dobrosky, Jr., who worked as a paramedic in northwest Ohio for a little over a decade, died of injuries from a one-vehicle accident just northwest of here late Saturday. He was 33.

Mr. Dobrosky was born in Oregon and graduated from Lake High School in 1988. A year later he married his high school sweetheart, Michelle Marshall.

Mrs. Dobrosky said the idea about him becoming a paramedic came when his second child, a boy, was about to be born. He was working at the lumber yard and said he wanted to do something that would make his son proud.

Mr. Dobroksy worked as a parademic for 11 years, part of the time for Walker Ambulance and St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, and three years for the Medcorp office in Findlay.

"He enjoyed saving people's lives and having a positive impact on them," Mrs. Dobrosky said. Once, when Mrs. Dobrosky's grandfather called to complain about a pain in his arms, Mr. Dobroski went right over.

"What he didn't say at the time was that my father was starting to have a stroke. I was told because of the prehospital treatment he was able to perform on him, my dad was able to live another seven wonderful years," Mrs. Dobrosky said.

Mr. Dobrosky had many hobbies, his wife said. One of them was drag racing, something his picked up from his father, Tom Dobrosky, Sr.

"He and his father did tractor pulls," Mrs. Dobrosky said. "That's how he started his interest in drag racing. He would race in Norwalk and Milan. He and his dad would do shop work and they would get work from as far away as Germany. That's how good their reputation was in the field."

Mrs. Dobrosky said her husband's other passion was computers. He took computer classes at Stautzenberger College and then programmed computers and built Web sites.

He loved music and played the accordion, drums, and keyboard. He also did stained-glass art and oil paintings.

Along with Mrs. Dobrosky, survivors include daughter, Brandi; son, Michael; parents, Thomas and Betty Dobrosky; sister, Wendy Walters, and grandmother, Thelma Dobrosky.
