Tank’s Meats issues
recall of dried sausages

ELMORE — Tank’s Meats of 3355 State Rt. 51 S. in Elmore on Monday issued a voluntary recall of a product it said may be contaminated with bacillus cereus.

The recalled products are landjaegers produced on or before Jan. 9. The label on each clear bag of the dried sausages has the establishment number “EST. 76” within the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s mark of inspection.

Samples collected by the Ohio Department of Agriculture were found positive for bacillus cereus. The investigation began after the Ottawa County Health Department reported five people became ill on Dec. 1, 2, 3, and 19 from the landjaegers.

The recall is precautionary, as no conclusive link was found between the illnesses and the sausage, the state said.

Bacillus cereus can cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps and pain within 6-15 hours after eating it. Most recover within 24 hours.
