I thank Blade Editor David Kushma for his Aug. 9 op-ed column, “Obama’s Clean Power Plan will help Ohio and the world — if we let it.” I am a facilitator of the Black Swamp Green Team, which promotes care of the environment.
We must preserve the sanctity of God’s creation. Our country has been blessed with natural resources, and it’s our responsibility to maintain the purity of our air, water, and land.

Commenting on Pope Francis’ encyclical on climate change, Elizabeth Eaton, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, wrote: “We share a deep concern with our Catholic brothers and sisters for the well-being of our neighbors and of God’s good creation. Humans, in service to God, have special roles on behalf of the whole of creation. Made in the image of God, we are called to care for the Earth as God cares for the Earth.”
As Americans and people of faith, we take this call to heart, and urge our country to become a leader in solving global warming and building a clean-energy economy.
