Help needed to honor our veterans

Help needed to honor our veterans

Remembrance Inc. is requesting the help of our community to complete our current mission. In 2016, we hope to be unveiling the Civil, World War I, and World War II War plaques to our existing Military Memorial Pathway on Summit Street, just south of the lighthouse before Point Place.

The Military Pathway was established with the placing of the Medal of Honor plaque, which was dedicated in a sunset service on Memorial Day this past year. The Vietnam Memorial plaque was dedicated on Sept. 11, 2014, and the Iraq, Korea, and Spanish-American War plaques were dedicated July 4, 2015. This year we will be dedicating our plaques on July 4. It is the least we can do in recognition of all from our county who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we are able to live free.

Our fund-raising is accomplished in several different fashions; tax-deductible donations by private individuals and local businesses to our nonprofit organization Remembrance Inc.

Our organization also sets up a booth at local events to help educate people and raise funds by giving commemorative pewter pins with every donation of $5.

Remembrance Inc. will hold its Sixth Annual Medal of Honor dinner on Nov. 6. We welcome back Medal of Honor recipient Gary Beikirch, who will speak about his experiences.

We raise funds by taking tax-deductible donations for advertising space in the event program. Business-card size ads are $50. We are also looking for businesses to allow us to set up our booth at area locations to bring awareness to our cause and for fundraising purposes.

We have a positive history of accomplishments in Toledo the past several years. In 2012, we donated the POW/MIA flags that fly at Toledo government buildings. In 2013, we were responsible for amending the plaque to include the missing names on the Lucas County War Memorial located by the police station in downtown Toledo.

We look forward to a future of understanding we can create in the city of Toledo with the help of the community. All funding we raise stays in the county. All of our success is at no cost to the taxpayers. This is not a for-profit organization, and all labor is donated. Anyone with questions may call 419-270-2655.
