The Salvation Army is very thankful that our 5K Red Kettle Run was included as a lead-in to the annual holiday parade.
This was the fourth year for our event, but the first time to be included with the parade. Our walkers and runners enjoyed the excitement of seeing families lining the streets.
Participants came from Chicago, Cleveland, New York, and Oregon to enjoy downtown Toledo.
This run raises awareness of the Salvation Army before its signature endeavor begins — the ringing of the bell, which is our primary source of funds for all the many programs available to everyone in need.

Advertising ban could cut drug cost
A big help in lowering drug costs would be to make it illegal to advertise on TV and in other media.
The money saved on advertising could be used to lower drug costs. This was done years ago with the ban on advertising for cigarettes.

Don’t eliminate ACA mandate
We know from excellent studies done by the Institute of Medicine that for every 1 million people who are uninsured, about 1,000 will die from lack of care for illnesses that are treatable.
The Senate Republicans are proposing to cancel the Affordable Care Act mandate to purchase insurance in order to save tens of billions in subsidies that would help cover these low-income people.
The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that 13 million Americans will lose or drop insurance. This could result in 13,000 preventable deaths year after year.

Quit calling it Obamacare
Why does the media continue to call the Affordable Care Act by its nickname Obamacare?
The Republicans continue to sabotage it every chance they get. They shouldn’t be able to bastardize the ACA and continue to blame Barack Obama.
