The Tigers will open spring training Feb. 13, which means baseball season is coming. Here is a daily look at players with possible ties to the 2018 Mud Hens, whose home opener is set for April 12 vs. Pawtucket.

IF Pete Kozma

History: The Tigers signed Kozma to a minor-league contract after he spent last season with the Yankees (for 11 games) and Texas (28 games). He played in the majors for St. Louis from 2011-15; his one season as an everyday player came with the Cardinals in 2013, when he played in 143 games at shortstop. Kozma’s only season in the International League was in 2016, when he batted .209 with two homers and 32 RBIs with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Future: While primarily a shortstop, Kozma has played every position but center field, catcher, and pitcher in his pro career. He likely will get some consideration as a utility player with the Tigers, but if that fails expect the slick-fielding Kozma to play shortstop for the Mud Hens.
