OTTAWA, Ohio — The Whirlpool Corp. plant in Ottawa will soon be incorporating wind energy into its facility, with the addition of a wind turbine coming by the end of the year.
The investment in the Ottawa plant, along with a similar investment in the corporation’s Marion plant, will total $13.5 million, the company said in a statement.
Built and financed by One Energy, the 1.5-megawatt turbines are the same design as the ones used at Whirlpool’s Findlay facility.
Whirlpool anticipates the turbine at the Ottawa plant will offset its electricity consumption by 34 percent, resulting in many of the products manufactured at the plant being made in part with wind energy.
The Ottawa plant manufactures full-size freezers sold by the Whirlpool, Amana, and Maytag brands.
