Versatile center A.J. Jenks, who scored a career-high 22 goals last season, re-signed with the Walleye today.
Jenks, a native of Wolverine Lake, Mich., posted 45 points in 55 games with Toledo last season. Jenks, who finished third on the team in scoring, added 23 assists.
The 26-year-old played the last two seasons with the Walleye. Jenks had 25 points with 16 goals and nine assists in 42 games with Toledo in 2014-15.
Walleye coach Dan Watson said Jenks has become the consummate leader in the locker room.
“A.J. brings a powerful game to the center position both on offense and defense,” Watson said. “He continues to improve each and every season and his leadership qualities are second to none.”
The former fourth round pick of the Florida Panthers in the 2008 draft has split time in his six-year pro career between the ECHL and the American Hockey League. He has collected 47 points (19 G, 28 A) in 183 games in the AHL. He has appeared in 165 ECHL games between Toledo, Florida, Cincinnati, and Charlotte with 114 points (60 G, 54 A).
Last season, Jenks tied a Walleye record with at least one point in 10 straight contests from late January into early February.
