Paul Simon to take stage at zoo amphitheater

Limited tickets still remain for singer-songwriter Paul Simon’s outdoor concert at the Toledo Zoo Amphitheater at 8 p.m. Sunday

Simon was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2001, 11 years after he and Art Garfunkel were inducted as Simon & Garfunkel in 1990. Simon, also a 1982 inductee into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, is one of the music world’s most honored musicians.

Of his 12 Grammy Awards, three were for albums of the year. In 2003, he was given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for his work with Simon & Garfunkel. He was a recipient of The Kennedy Center Honors in 2002 and was named as one of Time Magazine’s “100 People Who Shape Our World” in 2006. In 2011, Simon was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

■ The 35th annual Whitehouse Cherry Fest begins at 6 p.m. today and continues through Saturday.

Features include a military wall, more than 15 large amusement rides, live entertainment, a fireworks show, a cherry pie-eating contest, a beer and wine garden, and arts and crafts booths. The festival parade is at 1 p.m. Saturday, and fireworks are at 10 p.m. Saturday.

■ The final performances of the award-winning Broadway musical Kinky Boots are today through Sunday at the Stranahan Theater & Great Hall, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd.

The story follows a man named Charlie Price, who has suddenly inherited his father’s shoe factory as it is on the verge of bankruptcy. To help save the family business, Charlie finds inspiration from Lola, an entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos. Sexual language and adult themes.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. today; 8 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets prices are $38 to $88 and can be purchased in advance via etix.com.

■ The Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo’s 5th annual Toledo Jewish Film Festival continues Monday with The Midnight Orchestra, a film with humor and heart about the estranged son of a once-famous Moroccan musician who is unexpectedly transformed after returning to his homeland. The Midnight Orchestra is the winner of the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the Montréal World Film Festival.

Remaining films in the series are planned for June 19 and July 10.
