In a noon to 4 p.m. workshop on March 26, architect Scott Heacock will teach the principles of perspective: how to draw a three-dimensional scene and the use of shade and shadow. Additional workshops in painting in oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, gouache, as well as people and animal portraiture will be taught in upcoming classes at the Toledo Artists' Club at Toledo Botanical Garden. Among the teachers will be Paul Brand, Aaron Bivins, Ken Austin, Sandie Bacon, Cindy Agan, Jack Pardue, and Christopher Leeper. Opening party for the Baroque World of Fernando Botero, a new exhibit at the Toledo Museum of Art, will be 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Tickets, $15, include refreshments, hands-on activities, and a sneak peak at the exhibition, and are available at the door and in advance from 419-255-8000, ext. 7448. Running Saturday through June 12, the exhibit will be ticketed: $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $5 for students up to age 22.

A reception for the Fontana, Stroud, Yarnell exhibition will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Parkwood Gallery, 1838 Parkwood Ave. off Monroe Street.
Anthony Fontana uses humor to blend supposed "high" art with Internet experiences. Evaleigh Stroud expresses the power of materials and gender roles in her knitted firearms. Meghan Yarnell considers wealth, beauty, and happiness in functional ceramic mugs and pitchers. The exhibit, through April 22, was coordinated by the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo.

Irish Spring, paintings inspired by Carol Connolly Pletz's travels through Ireland and Scotland, will be at the American Gallery through March 26, with a 4 to 6 p.m. reception Saturday. The gallery is at 6600 Sylvania Ave. in Sylvania.

David Larkins will speak on his Transformation of Media: Watercolor to Acrylics, at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Room 173 of the Audrey M. Warrick Student Services/Administration building at Monroe County Community College. He uses an abstract-realistic treatment for landscapes and other subjects.
His paintings will be displayed in the college's library, in the Campbell Learning Resource Center, through April 8. Larkins graduated from the college, at 1555 South Raisinville Rd. in Monroe.

The Findlay Art League's Photo 29 Show opens with a 7 to 9 p.m. reception Friday in the league's gallery, 117 West Crawford St., Findlay. Awards for this juried show by area photographers will be presented at 8 p.m.

Theatre: The Works of Martin Janecky, a young Czech glass maker, continues at Habatat Galleries in Royal Oak, Mich., north of Detroit through April 3. It features human figures as performers, jugglers, and clowns. Made from hot sculpted glass, they have mask-like faces, extremely fine hand gestures, and are slightly contorted.
