Calendar: Pool contest continues in Clarion

The Glass City Open continues at the Clarion Westgate Hotel, 3536 Secor Rd., through Sunday. More than 125 of the world's best pool players and 250 amateurs are vying for $65,000 in prize money. There is also a vendors area, and the Children's Miracle Network will again be running the "Beat the Champ" booth where, for $5, anyone can play a world champion pool player. Doors open at 10 a.m. and run to midnight each day.

A Night of a Thousand Stars, a Girl Scout gala, will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Great Hall of the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. The evening includes auctions, dinner with the music of Jean Holden and the Academy Brass Quintet, and dancing to Hep Cat Revival.

The Elvis Parade of Toys Benefit is scheduled from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday in the Zenobia Shrine Center, 1511 Madison Ave. Entertainment will be provided by Bob Rosencrantz (as Elvis). A new toy or cash donation benefits the Shrine Children's Hospitals.

The Christian band Sonicflood will perform at 8 p.m. tomorrow in Findlay's Central Auditorium.

Bowling Green will kick off the holiday season with horse-drawn wagon rides from 6:30 to 9 p.m. tomorrow beginning at the Wood County District Public Library on North Main Street downtown. A tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled at 7 p.m. in front of the library.

Shakespeare and the Law, a three-day Ohio Shakespeare Conference hosted by Owens Community College, runs through Saturday on the campus, 30335 Oregon Rd., Perrysburg. Along with the conference workshops and seminars, the Shenandoah Blackfriars Stage Co. will present its Atomic Fission Tour, featuring performances in the Mainstage Theatre, each beginning at 7:30 p.m. On the schedule are Much Ado About Nothing tonight, Richard III tomorrow, and Return to the Forbidden Planet, based on The Tempest, Saturday. Each performance will be followed by a question and answer session with cast members.
