Seniors Myles Copeland and Kaleb Vaughn each had 15 points to lead a balanced attack for St. John’s, which will play Lima Senior in a regional semifinal at Savage Arena on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Spartans advanced with a 75-61 win over Ashland in a district final played Saturday at Bowling Green’s Stroh Center.
The Cougars (24-1) were led in defeat by nine points from senior Ben Casanova.
Scott’s tournament run comes to an end
The free throws didn’t fall for the Scott boys basketball team. Neither did many of the other shots the Bulldogs launched, despite Chris Darrington’s 3-pointer late in the game that put his team within reach of a comeback.
That reach wasn’t enough for Scott to continue its season, as Defiance defeated the Bulldogs 44-37 in a Division II district final Saturday at Central Catholic. The Defiance Bulldogs held Scott (21-4) to six successful shots from the floor in the second half, and focused on rebounding against a quick, athletic team.

“We just weren’t making any shots,” said Scott coach Fred Coogler, whose team struggled offensively in the second half. “That’s how it goes sometimes. I’m still extremely proud of them.”
Defiance (24-3) will face Celina or St. Marys Memorial in a regional semifinal at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Stroh Center at Bowling Green.
Notre Dame gets by Wadsworth for regional title
NORWALK, Ohio — To the list of important names in Toledo high school basketball history, you can add Christiana Jefferson, aka “C.J.,” who pulled one of the more notable rescue acts in tournament play in Saturday’s Division I girls regional championship game.
The 5-foor-6 senior point guard put the struggling Eagles on her back for the final 11 minutes of the first half, got them back into a game they had trailed by nine points, and delivered clutch free throws at the end to help Notre Dame secure a 42-37 victory over Wadsworth.

The win sends the seventh-ranked Eagles (26-2) to their fourth straight D-I state semifinal, an unprecedented achievement for Toledo teams, boys or girls.
Notre Dame, which has beaten the Grizzlies (23-4) in four consecutive regional finals, will meet Solon (24-3) in a state semifinal at 6 p.m. on Friday at Ohio State’s Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
Ottawa-Glandorf takes down Delta 88-58
Cold 3-point shooting and turnovers helped end one of the Delta boys basketball team’s best seasons in recent history.
The Panthers committed 20 turnovers and shot just 8-of-26 from 3-point range in an 88-58 loss to Ottawa-Glandorf in a Division III district title game Saturday night at Anthony Wayne.
Ottawa-Glandorf used constant, full-court pressure to speed up the game and force the Panthers into quick decisions, often resulting in turnovers.
“They pressured us more than almost anyone we’ve been pressed by all year,” Delta senior guard Ethan Edwards said. “The Lake Flyers were the only team close that pressured us that much. It’s hard to handle.”
Junior Noah Parsons led the Panthers (19-7) with 23 points, while Edwards and junior Evan Vasquez added 12 points each.
Fostoria St. Wendelin girls stay alive with regional title
ELIDA, Ohio — Fostoria St. Wendelin’s Kamryn Troike, voted the district’s girls basketball co-player of the year in Division IV, showed her impressive skills Saturday night in a regional final.
Troike scored 33 points and added 17 rebounds to lead the Mohawks past Ottoville 49-36.
The Mohawks, now 24-4, advance to the state semifinal at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ohio State’s Schottenstein Center.
“It’s an incredible feeling; it’s just crazy,” Troike said about earning a berth in the state semifinals. “This is our first time at state as a school. It’s a big moment for the school and the whole St. Wendelin community.”
