Hafner leads Perrysburg over Whitmer
If there was any doubt whether Trevor Hafner could fill the shoes of Gus Dimmerling — Perrysburg’s All-Ohio quarterback of 2014 — it ended Friday night at Whitmer’s Memorial Stadium.
Hafner finished 16-of-29 passing for 225 yards and rushed 10 times for a team-high 118 yards, including a 22-yard TD run, as Perrysburg topped Whitmer 467-315 in total offense.
“Trevor Hafner fills Trevor Hafner’s shoes,” Perrysburg coach Matt Kregel said. “He’s a different kind of player, but we love him. He’s a great player, and he does a great job for us.” STORY | PHOTO GALLERY | VIDEO
Lake’s shutout streak continues with blowout win over Archbold
MILLBURY — In a battle of undefeated teams, Lake steamrolled Archbold behind an offense that churned out 406 rushing yards. The Flyers improved to 3-0 with a defense that has yet to yield a point this season and gave up just 101 yards in a game played in cool and rainy conditions Friday night.
Lake senior running back Branden Short rushed for 240 yards and scored on runs of 5, 6, and 21 yards.
“We had to bring it to them hard and fast,” Short said. “We couldn't let them get any momentum on us. That was key. We thought it would be a challenge.” STORY | PHOTO GALLERY
Northview started a little slow against Bowsher, but gradually picked up momentum to pull off a 13-6 victory in a nonleague meeting at Wildcats Stadium.
In a game filled with missed opportunities for both sides, Northview capitalized just a few more times than Bowsher.
“This feels good,” Northview coach Doug Downing said. “The kids executed. Obviously, we had mistakes, but they’re finding ways to win, which is excellent.” STORY | PHOTO GALLERY | VIDEO
