A partnership involving the Ohio Consumers' Counsel, a food bank, and a voice messaging company will continue to provide consumers in 24 counties in northwest and north central Ohio with free voice mail services, the group announced yesterday.
People in the 419 area code without regular access to telephone services can obtain Leader Voice Mail services through local community action agencies, homeless shelters, and domestic violence shelters.
They are given a card and user ID that provides access to a telephone system and Web site by which they can receive and retrieve messages.
The message system can be used to aid in job searches, stay in touch with family, or receive medical help and social services.
