Olander Park System looking for public input

Community forums to be held Aug. 16, Sept. 14

The Olander Park System is hosting two community forums for public input on its strategic plan.

The forums are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 16, and at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Administrative Office, Olander Park, 6930 Sylvania Ave. Residents are asked for their opinion on park operations and programming.

Erika Buri, park director, said the input will be used for long-term planning. The park is completing a five-year and 10-year strategic plan. She aims to have a plan in place by spring of 2015.

Some of the issues the park would like feedback on are programming, whether restrooms are needed at Sylvan Prairie park, park trails, and if the park system should continue to expand.

Olander Park System expanded Sylvan Prairie Park to more than 200 acres this year, with about 70 acres purchased in the past year. It was an estimated 60 acres when it opened in 2006.
